Dan Martin rises to second overall at Paris-Nice

Ireland's Dan Martin has moved up to second overall in the Paris-Nice after seven stages.

The QuickStep rider finished third in Stage 7 on the climb of Col de la Couillole in a time of 05:02:07 and is now just 30 seconds off the race leader in the General Classification.

That yellow jersey is currently in possession of Team Sky's Colombian rider Sergio Montoya Henao. He finished the stage in fourth place, while two time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador was second.

The Spanish rider is third overall in the General Classification, just one second behind Martin.

Ireland's Nicolas Roche, a cousin of Martin's, also made progress on stage 7 which lifts him up to 17th overall, just under 25 minutes off the lead.

He was placed 27th in Stage 7.

Philip Deignan and Sam Bennett, who won Stage 3 finished the stage 63rd and 105th respectively on the stage and sit 99th and 67th overall.

The eighth and final stage to Nice takes place on Sunday, March 12th.
