Dan Shanahan wants the GAA to look into allowing "a fella onto the field to get a message onto the players"

Waterford selector Dan Shanahan says the performance against Kilkenny in the drawn All-Ireland semi-final is "up there" among the best showings by a Deise team.

Waterford came very close to dethroning the reigning All-Ireland champions on Sunday but had to settle for a draw.

While Shanahan was disappointed not to see out the result, he is looking forward to the replay and feels it is among the best Deise performances from recent memory.

"We've been criticised a lot by these so-called experts calling our sweeper system and stuff like that. But it's just the way we hurl. Every fella worked so hard. It's definitely up there," he said on Off The Ball

"I knew [the performance] was coming and we've been criticised a lot so we have - not getting goals against Wexford and scores against Tipp in the Munster final - but again we believe what we have inside our dressing room. You have about 50 people involved altogether, including the backroom team, and we all believe in each other and when you have 50 people pulling one way, you might just get the result you deserve."

Shanahan is quite active on the sideline and he has a suggestion for officialdom.

"It's kind of frustrating on the sideline from my point of view, as in sometimes I have to get a message to my full-back line and I'm not let on the field. And I'm there, not arguing with the fourth official, he's doing his job to the best of his ability, but you have to leave a fella onto the field to get a message onto the players. It's something the GAA will have to look at," he said.

"There was an incident there again with the waterboy. It was very warm. He couldn't go onto the field to give lads water when the lads were calling for water. I just don't think it's good enough personally."
