Dana White calls off Bisping-GSP title fight

Georges St-Pierre's return to the UFC will not be a Middleweight title fight against Michael Bisping.

GSP's return to the Octagon was confirmed at the start of March, where he was to fight the English fighter. On Wednesday night, UFC President Dana White confirmed the title fight will not be St-Pierre's return fight.

Earlier this month, St. Pierre revealed he was ready to fight Bisping "any time after October", but White is not waiting around for the fight to happen. Bisping will instead fight Yoel Romero, the number one contender in the middleweight division.

"I made this GSP fight, we did a press conference. The thing was supposed to happen in July. Michael Bisping is going to have to defend his title now. We’re not waiting for GSP," White revealed in a bombshell to Australia's Fox Sports.

"Georges St-Pierre is saying he will not be ready to compete now until November. Who knows if that’s even the case. It could be next year... So we’re not waiting for Georges St-Pierre anymore. We’re moving on with the division, and Yoel Romero will get the next shot."

Bisping has not defended his title since a win over Dan Henderson last October. In that same period, Romero has fought just the once, after a win over Chris Weidman in November.

GSP's return will still be one of the highlights of the 2017 mixed martial arts calendar. It just wont be for the UFC Middleweight title.
