Dana White hoping to finalise McGregor-Mayweather soon

UFC President Dana White is hoping to have an agreement in place soon for the much-anticipated fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

White was speaking at the UFC 211 post-fight press conference after heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defended his title for the second time with a stoppage win over Junior Dos Santos.

He expects to have a deal in place with McGregor soon before attempting to negotiate with the unbeaten boxer.

"We’re right there,” White said. “I’m expecting an executed agreement tomorrow, and then I’ll start working with Team Mayweather next week.”

The fight has been mooted for a number of months and appeared to pick up momentum after the Dubliner became the UFC's first ever simultaneous two-division title-holder after beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November.

The Irishman has been out of action since that win on paternity leave but is now in a position to consider fights after the birth of his son.

Mayweather retired from boxing in 2015 with a perfect record of 49-0. However he has publicly stated he will come out of retirement for a super-fight with McGregor.

The pay-per-view split is sure to be one of the more contentious issues and Mayweather has a history of driving a hard bargain.

He was involved in the "Fight of the Century" against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 where he commanded a 60-40 split of the over 4.4 million PPV sales.
