Dana White responds to Jose Aldo request to be released by the UFC

UFC president Dana White says the promotion won't release Jose Aldo from his contract.

The Brazilian former UFC featherweight champion had wanted a rematch with Conor McGregor in order to have an opportunity to win back the belt he lost in December 2015.

Aldo secured the interim featherweight title at UFC 200 in July when he defeated Frankie Edgar but is not happy with how long he has had to wait for a rematch with featherweight champ McGregor, who has been scheduled for fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt in November at UFC205.

Aldo told Combate.com in Brazil that, "If [White] likes me and my family, I just hope he released me. I don’t want a fight. I want to leave as I came in. The UFC and WEC didn’t give me anything. Everything I conquered was my merit and from my team. Nobody gave me anything. I conquered everything. And I gave them a lot more than they gave me back. I just want them to release me from my contract."

White has now spoken to Combate.com and played down the chances of Aldo being released.

"We will not cancel his contract," he said, while adding that the promotion respects Aldo and that his comments were likely made in the heat of the moment.
