Juventus closed the gap on league leaders Napoli to two points in Serie A on Sunday night with a win over Roma thanks to a goal from Paulo Dybala, but it is Daniele De Rossi who has been grabbing the headlines in the aftermath of the game.
The Italian international has been accused of making racist comments to Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic after the pair clashed in the first half.
According to AFP, De Rossi is believed to have told Mandzukic to "shut up, sh**ty gypsy".
Roma manager Luciano Spalletti stated that Mandzukic had been insulting Roma players throughout the match, and that the only mistake De Rossi made was that he "didn't put his hand up to his mouth, but I will tell him to do that next time".
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was also doing his best not to make a big deal of the issue in the post-match press conference, saying that "I don't know what De Rossi said to Mandzukic and I don't know what Mandzukic said to De Rossi, but players regularly trade comments with each other during games".
The controversy comes hot on the heels of another incident involving offensive language in Serie A after Internazionale's Roberto Mancini and Maurizio Sarri clashed over homophobic comments made by the Napoli boss, who has since apologised and been given a two-game ban.
