Danny Welbeck not only sidelined for Euro 2016 but won't be back until 2017

England and Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is out of Euro 2016 and in a further blow, won't be back until next year.

He will miss nine months after having right knee surgery on an injury he picked up during Sunday's Premier League game with Manchester City.

That would put Welbeck out until February 2017.

He only returned from a separate long-term injury - to his left knee - three months ago.

A favourite of England manager Roy Hodgson due to his work-rate, the former Manchester United forward had been expected to go to France this summer after making an encouraging return to Arsenal action in recent months.

The 25-year-old had scored four Premier League goals in 11 games, including a late winner against champions Leicester City.
