Darren O'Dea closing in on deal to return to the Scottish Premier League

Darren O'Dea looks set for a return to the Scottish Premier League for the first time since leaving Celtic as a promising defender.

Dundee are close to agreeing a deal with the player, who was most recently playing with Mumbai City in the Indian Super League.

According to the BBC, O'Dea will undergo a medical at Dens Park, and is likely to sign a deal that would see him stay with the club until the end of the season.

Still aged just 28 (with his birthday early next month), O'Dea should still have a lot to offer a team, but since failing to crack into the English game after spells at Reading, Leeds and Ipswich, he has played in Canada, Ukraine and India, as well as spending a spell with Blackpool.

O'Dea has represented the Republic of Ireland at senior international level 20 times, and while it's a long shot, he may be hoping that some game time with Dundee, who are currently 7th in the table in the SPL, could help him figure in Martin O'Neill's plans in time for the summer.
