Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle called up to Republic of Ireland squad ahead of World Cup qualifier against Austria

Dundalk duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle have both been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of the crunch World Cup qualifier against Austria this month.

The pair, who have enjoyed league success in recent weeks and currently prepare for a Europa League clash away to Zenit on Thursday night, are both part of the provisional team announced this morning by manager Martin O'Neill.

Dundalk wrapped up a third consecutive league title last month against Bohemians and are also on track for a double-double as they face Cork City in the final of the FAI Cup this Sunday.

Bradford City goalkeeper Colin Doyle is one of five goalkeepers called up to the squad for his second senior call-up.

The once capped netminder has been in fine form for the League One side this year, recording six clean sheets during the opening 16 games of the season.

There was bad news on the injury front for Ireland, Shane Long and Daryl Murphy both miss the trip due as they continue their recovery from hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Doubts still hang over the fitness of John O'Shea, James McCarthy and Stephen Ward, but all three are still named in the provisional squad.

Harry Arter also makes the squad after promising performances for Bournemouth in the Premier League which has seen them pick up an impressive victory over Hull and a point against Tottenham.

The Republic of Ireland's attacking options ahead of the clash include Jonathan Walters, Adam Rooney and David McGoldrick.

Kevin Doyle also earns a call-up with good performances for Colorado Rapids helping book their place in the MLS Conference semi-finals against Robbie Keane's LA Galaxy.
