David Bentley lifts lid on Tottenham's Coppers trip and working with Wenger and Redknapp

As David Bentley told me in his chat with Team 33, he would have loved to have been a player in the 1970s or '80s rather than the era he played in.

The former England, Tottenham and Arsenal midfielder retired from football at just 29 two years ago, having become disillusioned with aspects of the game.

In his chat with us on this week's podcast, Bentley talks about how maverick players like the Paul Gascoignes of the bygone era are being coached out of the game and how that is having a detrimental effect at the very top level.

He also chats about stories from his career like the time, he, Robbie Keane and a cohort of Tottenham players went on a Christmas party trip to Dublin in 2009 - including a stop-off at Coppers nightclub - which left Harry Redknapp irritated.

He also talked about why he thinks his "best manager" Arsene Wenger and his recent Arsenal teams occasionally suffer setbacks, having started his career under the Frenchman at Highbury.

Bentley, who did play for FC Rostov in Russia towards the end of his career, also revealed that a move to a Spanish club had been on the cards at one time.
