David Moyes highlights "classy" gesture from Bobby Charlton's wife

Sunderland manager David Moyes has highlighted a "classy" gesture made by the wife of Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton towards his own wife.

Former Everton boss Moyes had a brief and unsuccessful spell at Old Trafford during the 2013-14 season as successor to Alex Ferguson.

The club ultimately finished seventh that season, although Moyes had been dismissed as manager by April 22nd of that season.

Moyes will make his first return to United as a manager when he takes his Sunderland side to Old Trafford for a St Stephen' Day match.

And in the lead up to the game, he highlighted a gesture made by Norma Charlton, wife to former World Cup and European Cup-winning midfielder Bobby.

"There was a classy moment this week, which I think reflects Manchester United more than anything," said Moyes who went on to manage Real Sociedad in Spain for almost a year following his Man United departure.

"My wife got a call from Norma Charlton, Bobby Charlton's wife, to ask her to go to the game. That was the way of Manchester United. That was the sort of thing - the class, that was shown by Sir Bobby Charlton's wife."

However, Moyes added that his wife could not attend the fixture.

Sunderland are one point off the safety of 17th place in the Premier League table heading into the United match.
