David Pocock is considering taking a year away from rugby

The Australian international is believed to be considering a period away from the game in order to allow him to continue his studies.

According to The Australian, Pocock is mulling over a sabbatical from the game in 2017 so that he can secure a bachelor's degree in Ecological Agricultural Systems, possibly including a period studying overseas in Oxford or Cambridge University.

Pocock was a standout performer for Australia at the World Cup and is expected to make a decision on his future within the next 10 days.

Head coach of the national team, Michael Cheika, has reportedly been in Canberra to discuss the future of the 27-year-old with the Brumbies, and the negotiations have also included coach Stephen Larkham and chief executive Michael Jones.

Speaking to ABC Radio, Jones explained that "he’s probably one of the best players in the world and we want him at the Brumbies. The problem is, the demand and the interest in David has skyrocketed.

"We've sort of had the first offer to him and a counter-offer back...so I would say a week or 10 days and we should have it wrapped up hopefully".

Although neither the Brumbies or the Australian Rugby Union are keen on letting him go, The Australian report that they would prefer it to be sooner rather than later so that he can return to Super Rugby and get two seasons under his belt before the World Cup in 2019.
