Davy Fitzgerald's Clare reign to end in next 48 hours according to the Examiner

Davy Fitzgerald's future as Clare manager appears to be coming to an end this week.

The 2013 All-Ireland winning coach looks set to step down from his role amid reports that the players have asked for a change in management.

The Irish Examiner reports that Fitzgerald will leave his role within the next 48 hours following a player meeting last night.

They also state that he hinted that a departure was on the cards to the players after the All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Galway.

The 45-year-old had to undergo heart surgery mid-way through this year's Championship campaign.

Earlier, The Clare People had reported that some members of the panel were keen on a change of management for 2017.

Fitzgerald led Clare to All-Ireland glory in 2013 but the past three years have been less successful, although the Banner won the National Hurling League in 2016.

They exited this year's championship at the quarter-final stage after a 2-17 to 0-17 loss to Galway.

In 2015, they were knocked out by Cork in Round 2 of the qualifiers.
