Dean Gardiner beats Martin Keenan in box off

Amidst division in the IABA, the victor would get the final place in the Irish team for the European Championships

Dean Gardiner has beaten Martin Keenan in a box off to decide the final Ireland team selection for the upcoming European Championships in Ukraine.

The box off had been organised amidst divisions within the IABA about team selection and other matters.

It was a split decision victory for Clonmel fighter Gardiner in the super-heavyweight box off which had been organised to settle on the final team member.

Speaking to Off The Ball on Wednesday night, Sport Ireland chief executive John Treacy discussed the "deep divisions" with the IABA.
