Tottenham's Dele Alli has suggested Harry Kane should consider a career in the NFL after smashing a penalty over the bar and into the stands in last night's match with Southampton.

Kane lined up the spot-kick after Alli was taken down in the box by Nathan Redmond after being put through one-on-one with Fraser Foster.

Referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot and sent Redmond off for the challenge.

Kane consistently converts penalties but blasted this one over the bar before immediately looking to the spot afterwards.

Replays suggest the turf moved the ball slightly after he placed his standing foot before striking the ball.

Tottenham eventually won 4-1 after Alli and Son completed the rout to keep the Londoners in touch with the leading pack.

Southampton took an early lead after Virgil Van Dijk nodded in a free kick in the second minute. Alli equalised in the nineteenth minute before Kane gave the visitors the lead as Pochettino's side took control of the match.

Speaking afterwards on Kane's miss Alli said: I've heard 'H' talk about NFL so if there are any coaches watching then they'll be looking at him for a kicker!" he told Spurs TV.

Tottenham now sit in fifth place and are a point outside the Champions League places.
