Did Ireland newcomer Alan Judge do enough to impress Stephen McPhail?

Former Ireland midfielder Stephen McPhail believes new cap Alan Judge settled in quite well in tonight's 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland.

The ex-Leeds United player was at the Aviva Stadium for Off The Ball after the game and he was impressed with a "really solid Ireland performance".

But after a Championship season filled with goals and assists for Brentford, Judge did not see as much of the ball as he nor fans would have liked.

However, McPhail feels Judge can be satisfied with his performance on his debut.

"He settled quit well in terms of how they would have looked at it. I know, offensively he would have wanted the ball a bit more and create chances. He didn't really do that and I'm sure he'll be disappointed with that. He's got the first [cap] out of the way and he can be proud of his performance and I'm sure that manager will note that," he said, describing his work-rate as "first class".

McPhail was impressed by the centre-backs Shane Duffy - as "the one who stood out" and Ciaran Clark who combined for the only goal of the game but crucially were assured defensively, while he also felt Robbie Brady improved at left-back as the game wore on.
