Diego Simeone may have to watch the culmination of the La Liga title race from the stands if a three match ban against him is upheld.

The Argentine coach was sent to the stands during Atletico Madrid's 1-0 win over Malaga yesterday after a ball was thrown from the technical area onto the pitch.

The referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz asked Simeone who had lobbed the ball on and sent him off after reportedly not getting an answer.

Barcelona kept their noses ahead in the race as they beat Sporting Gíjon 6-0 and Real Madrid also remain in contention one point adrift of the pair after a 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano.
