Djibril Cisse to concentrate on DJ career

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse says he has retired from football to focus on his DJ career.

The France international, who also had spells with Sunderland and QPR, hasn't played since 2015.

At the time, he announced his career was over because of injury.

But he attempted to make a return by joining up with his first club Auxerre. However they ultimately never offered him a contract.

Cisse's Liverpool career was quickly hindered by a horrific broken leg injury sustained in a match against Blackburn.

That occurred in October 2004, just months after he had signed from Auxerre.

At that point, Cisse had scored two league goals for Rafa Benitez's team, including a strike on his Premier League debut against Tottenham.

Cisse returned in time to play for Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul when the club famously came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 and eventually take their fifth European Cup trophy after a penalty shootout.

He was an 85th minute substitute on that famous night in Istanbul and converted his penalty in the shootout.

Cisse's Liverpool career never truly recovered after the broken leg, although he did score nine league goals in 2005-06.

But he then left for Marseille, initially on loan before further spells in England with Sunderland and in Greece with Panathanaikos.

After half a season in Italy with Lazio, he then joined QPR in January 2012 and remained there for 18 months.
