Djokvic off to winning start at World Tour Finals

Novak Djokovic claimed his 15th consecutive win at London's O2 arena earlier this afternoon, beating Japan's Kei Nishikori.

The Serb is seeking his fourth consecutive end-of-season title at the ATP World Tour Finals, and he had little trouble extending his winning run today.

It was straightforward enough for Djokovic, beating his opponent 6-1, 6-1 on the opening day of the tournament, meaning that he has not lost at the venue since 2011.

It took just 65 minutes for the world number 1 to see off Nishikori, subjecting his opponent to heavy ground strokes, lobs and powerful aces as he broke serve five times en-route to extending his winning streak to 23 matches.

The Wimbledon champion was just one game away from completing a calendar year Grand Slam, losing in the French Open final to Stan Wawrinka having won the US and Australian Open as well as the English showpiece event.

However, he was presented with the World Number One trophy after the game for finishing the year as the top ranked tennis player in 2015.

Speaking at the event he said;

"Undoubtedly it has been the best season and the best year of my life - I became a father and I got married. Those are the kinds of trophies and milestones that mean the most to me.

"I've been experiencing the peak time right now of my abilities. I was very consistent with my results, 2011 and 2015 definitely stand out.

Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych will take to the court at 8pm for the opening days other round-robin game.

All players will wear black ribbons on their shirts as a mark of respect for the victims of the Paris Attacks on Friday.

"All my heart goes out to the families of the lost ones, it's really devastating to see those images and that footage," said Djokovic
