Defeat and victory can elicit many differing responses on social media, whether it is soccer, rugby, GAA or other sports.
The same occurred when both the Irish soccer and rugby teams won big games against Germany and France respectively, and lost to Poland and Argentina respectively in crucial games for both sides.
But for some observers, there is a contrasting depiction of the soccer and rugby. It is something 2012 Sports Journalist of the Year Ewan MacKenna feels is the case:
