Donegal's Joe Duffy named as one of the UFC's best newcomers of 2015

Donegal fighter Joe Duffy has been named as one of the ten best newcomers to the UFC in 2015.

The Lightweight star was ranked No.4 by the writers of UFC.com for his performances this year which included two first round wins from his opening fights. Impressively, one win came by submission, with the other coming by knockout.

UFC writer Thomas Gerbasi succinctly described Duffy's UFC journey so far for their website. "Poor Joe Duffy. All he’s heard since being signed to the UFC is that he’s the last fighter to beat Conor McGregor. You almost expect to see that as part of his name on his passport."

"But the talented Irishman has the talent and the determination to make is abundantly clear that he’s not the answer to a trivia question, but a legitimate lightweight prospect and soon to be contender. Duffy’s Octagon debut against Jake Lindsey could not have gone better, as he halted his foe in less than two minutes, and he added a Performance of the Night submission of Ivan Jorge that has fight fans eagerly awaiting the New Year and his UFC 195 clash with Dustin Poirier."

The 27-year-old was due to fight in Dublin in October, but had to withdraw from the fight due to concussion. He fights Dustin Poirier in their rescheduled bout on January 2nd in Las Vegas.

UFC Champion Holly Holm was unsurprisingly named as the best newcomer of the year. She finished ahead of Tom Breese. The English fighter defeated Cathal Pendred in Dublin earlier this year.
