The countdown to Rio 2016 is well and truly on for Ireland's rowers as not one but two Irish pairs qualified for next years games in Brazil this morning.

It was a very successful morning at the World Rowing Championships for Ireland as Paul and Gary O’Donovan qualified for Rio with 0.28 seconds to spare thanks to a fifth place finish in the B Final of the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls.

Minutes later, the Women’s pair of Claire Lambe and Sinead Jenning followed suit with a third place finish in their B final. The duo had narrowly missed out on qualification on Thursday when they were beaten into fourth place in their semi-final.
