The redevelopment of Dalymount Park may be delayed for a number of years due to a lack of funding.
Dublin City Council, who now own the ground are expected to make a submission to government looking for funding for the redevelopment. The Irish Times claim they will seek €20million for the rebuild. Reportedly, the FAI will not supply any funds to the development.
That's despite FAI Chief Executive John Delaney claiming the redevelopment of the Phibsborough ground was "a dream of mine for many, many years".
In a 2014 interview with the Irish Independent, Delaney stated he hoped the stadium could be used as a legacy project from Dublin's hosting of matches at Euro 2020.
"I would have an eye on Dalymount Park and I would hope we could achieve something there. I would love if we could get it out of debt and be redeveloped for 2020. I've already spoken to government and city council about that."
Both Bohemians and Shelbourne are expected to play in the stadium once it's completed. Dublin City Council took charge of Tolka Park last year in preparation of the Dalymount redevelopment. Both sides are expected to play in the Drumcondra venue during the rebuild.
With building not expected to begin until next next year at the very earliest, the stadium may still be idle once Euro 2020 is taking place just five kilometres away in the Aviva Stadium.
