Dundalk's Gary Rogers called into the Ireland squad by Martin O'Neill

Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of the friendly with Oman on Wednesday night.

Rogers replaces Portsmouth goalkeeper David Forde in the squad for the friendly and the World Cup qualifier against Serbia. Rogers was an unused sub when Ireland played the Netherlands in May in Dublin.

The Meath native has been called in to train with the Ireland squad on numerous occasions, but this is only the second time he has been added to the squad by Martin O'Neill. Rogers will be a back-up for both Darren Randolph and Keiren Westwood in both games this week.

Rogers has played for numerous teams in the League of Ireland and won the Premier Division title with Sligo Rovers in 2012 and Dundalk last season. Widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the League, Rogers has also had spells with Drogheda United and St. Patrick's Athletic.

Ireland manager Martin O'Neill revealed on Tuesday afternoon, that he was very close to calling other Dundalk players into the squad.

The League of Ireland champions return to action on Tuesday evening. They play Crumlin United in the FAI Cup in Oriel Park. An away game against UCD awaits the winners in the quarter-finals.
