Eden Hazard working on adding "selfish" streak

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard knows he needs to be more single-minded if he is to be rated in the same class as the game's leading lights Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

His Blues team-mate Cesc Fabregas says the Belgium international can be "unstoppable" if he becomes more "selfish".

Premier League leaders Chelsea aim to go seven points clear by beating Southampton later.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hazard says he knows he can improve that aspect of his game.

"But I try game after game to be more selfish as I know it’s good for me to score more goals if I want to reach this level of Messi and Ronaldo. I’m working on it," said the Belgian.

He added: "A lot of people say to me you need to be more selfish. But when I’m on the pitch sometimes I prefer to pass the ball. I sometimes want the other one to shine, not me."

However, Chelsea's manager Antonio Conte had questioned the notion that players like Messi are selfish, saying at a press conference: "I don't think that a player like Messi is a selfish player. The first target for every great champion is to play for the team and to put your talent in the team. The best players in the world don't exist without the team.

"For me, it's sad when I listen [to] this, that one player must be more selfish to reach the top level. It is very sad because this is not my idea of football. For me, I never will understand this. In my team I don't want selfish players."
