A court in Egypt has placed former Egyptian footballer Mohamed Aboutrika on a terror list.
According to his lawyer, it relates to alleged ties with the banned Muslim Brotherhood group.
The 38 year old had his assets frozen in the spring of 2015, three years after he had endorsed the presidential of Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi.
The Egyptian government designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in 2013.
Aboutrika is accused of giving the group financial support.
The consequences of being placed on the terror list include a travel ban.
His lawyer Mohamed Osman says he and his client "will appeal this decision".
Aboutrika won 100 caps for Egypt between 2001 and 2013.
He was part of Egypt teams that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006 and 2008.
Aboutrika scored the winning penalty in the shootout in the 2006 final on home soil against Ivory Coast and then scored the 76th winner as his nation defeated Cameroon 1-0 in the 2008 decider.
Aboutrika spent his entire club career in Egypt, most notably winning the CAF Champions League three times with Cairo club Al Ahly, as well as seven domestic league titles.
He was named BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2008. Aboutrika retired from the game in 2013.
