Emmanuel Adebayor wants to return to the Premier League after the Africa Cup of Nations

After leaving Crystal Palace last season, Emmanuel Adebayor is still on the lookout for a new club.

The 32-year-old is currently playing Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. His last club match came in the FA Cup final last May against Manchester United at Wembley.

Despite impressing in Togo's opening match against Cote d'Ivoire, the former Arsenal and Tottenham says he will not look for a new club until Togo's participation in Gabon ends.

One of only five players at the tournament without a club, Adebayor told The Guardian that he had received offers but wanted to focus on the tournament.

Adebayor's career will always be tragically linked with the tournament. He was on a bus that was attacked by terrorists in Angola in 2010 that saw three people lose their lives, with a further nine injured. Togo subsequently pulled out of the event, which was began the day after the attack.

"I was there in Cabinda in 2010 so I could be in a wheelchair today, or dead and forgotten. How can I complain about not playing football for six months?"

"I love England, love the Premier League and want to find a way to get back there," he revealed. "I want to hit the top level again, that’s for sure. If not, I just want to play football and have fun, so if I get an offer somewhere then I’ll go."

Despite playing for four clubs in the Premier League, the former Togo captain claimed he has a bad reputation in England, but he wasn't sure why.

"Maybe it’s something that has just followed me. But one thing I always say is that 90% of the people I’ve played with would say I’m an amazing guy, a great team-mate. Other people, those who work on the gate at every stadium I’ve played at, will tell you I am a humble guy and a nice person. But the press will say what they want, and in my career I’ve been unfortunate enough to have a lot of negativity."

Adebayor impressed in Oyem earlier this week in the 0-0 draw with Cote d'Ivoire. If he continues that form in the upcoming Group C games against DR Congo and Morocco, the striker may get a return ticket to the Premier League sooner rather than later.
