Enable claims victory in The Oaks

Frankie Dettori has ridden Enable to victory in The Oaks on the opening afternoon of the Epsom Derby meeting.

The 6-to-1 shot beat odds-on favourite Rhododendron into second place. Dettori will go for a double in when he rides Cracksman in The Derby tomorrow.

"When I saw Ryan not moving I thought 'Oh God I’m in trouble' but I knew my filly would stay right to the end and she pulled away. What a good mare," he told Racing Post.

"Well done to everyone at Clarehaven Stables as well. She’s only run three times and is very good. She stays very well and will only get better and better."

Meanwhile, Aidan O'Brien will saddle nearly a third of the field for the 2017 Investec Derby when he sends six runners to post for the Blue Riband.

Ryan Moore rides what is thought to be their leading hope Cliff of Moher who views for favouritism in whats seen as one of the most open Derbies in years.

"Cliffs of Moher seems to be fine," O'Brien said. "He seems to be coming out of Chester well. Everything has gone well with him.

"Capris is also in good form, he's had two runs where Cliffs of Moher has just had one. I think we got as many runs as we could get into them ahead of the race."

Of the race itself, O'Brien said: "It's competitive. Anything can happen in the Derby."
