England players look for significant hike in match day fee

England's rugby players are rumoured to be looking for a sizable increase to their match day fee as they close in on a Grand Slam.

Eddie Jones' men are currently thought to earn £15,000 for representing their country, which is broken down into £7,000 of a match fee, £7,000 in image rights, and £1,000 for training.

According to The Daily Mail however, they are looking for a significant increase as they want that figure increased by £10,000 to £25,000 per game.

The demand comes as a result of the fact that the RFU had a large increase in their revenue in the past 12 months, reaching a record high of £207.9 million. The proposed new fee would take effect from July 1st, and run through to the 2019 World Cup.

The team would split a kitty of over £600,000 should they win the Grand Slam, while their opponents on Saturday, Wales, are believed to be in line for a £45,000 bonus if they beat England to win the Six Nations.

By contrast, Wales' players will earn £5,300 for their Six Nations game on Saturday.
