England's Billy Vunipola "really wants to try out NFL"

England rugby player Billy Vunipola has opened up about his interest in one day taking up American football professionally.

The international back-row is 24 but suggests the NFL could be something he tries his hand at after his contract with Saracens runs out in 2019.

In an in-depth interview with The Times columnist and ex-England international and Leicester Tigers second row Ben Kay, the Sydney-born No 8 is keen to do other things outside of rugby union.

"I am at Saracens until 2019, pushing myself with regards to international honours and seeing if I can represent England. It is hard as a rugby player to talk about stuff like that," he said.

"I really, really would like to go away and play something else. I really want to try out NFL, just push myself and give it a crack. If it doesn’t happen then go home. It is a long time until then and my mum will probably read this and tell me to shut up and concentrate on one thing."

Vunipola also spoke to Kay about how he likes to unwind and one of his new hobbies is reading about a certain boy wizard.

"I have just started to read the Harry Potter books. I have never known how good they were. It is probably the first book I have read. I am on the fourth one now. I will probably read them all and then watch the films again. They help me go to sleep," he said.

Vunipola, who joined Saracens from Wasps in 2013, was a squad member during England's ill-fated 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign on home soil.

However, he helped England to Six Nations glory in 2016 and also was part of the Saracens side which defeated Racing Metro to win the European Rugby Champions Cup.
