Eric Bristow loses Sky Sports role over child abuse comments

Sky Sports have announced that five-time World Darts Champion Eric Bristow is no longer part of their coverage.

Bristow's controversial comments over the football child abuse scandal, saw the 59-year-old lose his position as a pundit, commentator and spotter on the station's coverage of darts.

In tweets which have now been deleted, Bristow said that darts players were "proper men" unlike footballers, for how they would react to a similar situation in their sport.

"He was a contributor to our darts coverage in the past but we will not be using him in the future", a Sky spokesperson revealed to The Guardian on Tuesday morning.

In recent hours, Bristow has deleted most of his tweets about the topic, but they are still widely available online, in which he also used a derogatory homosexual reference about child abusers.

A World Champion in 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985 and 1986, Bristow is one of the most famous people to ever play the game. He was scheduled to be part of Sky's coverage of next month's PDC World Darts Championship in London.
