Europe captain Darren Clarke admits "the better team won" the Ryder Cup

Europe Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke says he has no complaints about the final result after USA won the 2016 tournament.

Team Europe have won every Ryder Cup since USA last won in 2008 but were unable to claw back a three point gap on the final day as the American team ultimately emerged victorious 17-11 at Hazeltine.

It means Clarke, who succeeded Paul McGinley in the role of non-playing captain, was unable to retain the trophy.

But he felt the USA deserved victory over the three days.

"The American guys showed their class again and they holed the putts when they had to hole. So the bottom line is this week, the better team won," he said.

Speaking to the BBC, Clarke also suggested that he was happy with the decisions he made during the 2016 Ryder Cup.

"I wouldn’t have changed anything. I have spoken about this already to my vice captains and we were confident. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but even with that we wouldn’t have made any changes," he said.
