Ex-Ireland youth international Samir Carruthers makes switch to Sheffield United

Former Ireland underage international Samir Carruthers has joined Sheffield United.

The 23 year old former Aston Villa and MK Dons midfielder has signed a deal which will run for three and half years with the leaders of the English third tier League One.

"Samir is the right age, has a great pedigree from his time at Villa and MK and he is an exciting player. He is an attacking midfielder who can fit into a number of positions and we are looking forward to introducing him to our great group," Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told the Blades' official club website.

London born, Carruthers has represented Ireland at under 19 level, winning 10 caps, before stepping up to the under 21 ranks and winning the same number of caps.

He spent four years in the Arsenal academy for four years from 2005, before switching to Aston Villa's youth ranks.
