FC United of Manchester will open the doors of their stadium to the homeless on Christmas day

FC United of Manchester will open up their stadium to the homeless of the city on Christmas day as a gesture to give back to their community.

A bus, driven by a supporter of the club, will leave the city centre towards the Broadhurst Park stadium at four times throughout the day to bring those who need it out for a "hearty breakfast".

There will also be toiletries and towels on offer for those who want to take a shower at the stadium, with the meal taking place in their function room overlooking the pitch.

In a statement on their website, Andy Cheshire, FC United’s Community and Education Manager said: "The idea derived from a conversation with Lifeshare, who are our partners for our annual Big Coat Day collection, where FC United supporters and wider public donate warm clothing for the homeless.

"Lifeshare open their offices on Christmas Day but they have limited facilities for the homeless to take a shower, I immediately thought that we should use our facility, as not only have we changing and shower facilities here at Broadhurst Park, we also have a large function room, kitchen facilities and access to a range of activities."

The club will also provide facilities for people to have a bit of fun on the day, including table football, table tennis, pool, Xbox, PlayStation 4 and various arts and crafts.

From food to toiletries, the club have relied on donations and volunteers to stage the event, while first team players, as well as manager Karl Marginson will be in attendance on the day to help out.
