Fernando Torres discharged following head injury

Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres has been discharged from hospital after suffering a head injury during last night's La Liga clash with Deportivo La Coruna.

Torres was transferred to hospital after taking a heavy fall in an aerial challenge with Alex Bergantinos in the concluding stages of the game.

Tests and scans were conducted on the striker and he spent the night in hospital.

Early indications about his recovery were positive, with scans confirming that Torres had suffered 'no traumatic alterations or injuries' and he was said to be in a stable condition.

It has since been confirmed that the Spaniard has been discharged.

A statement on the Atletico Madrid website reads:

"After spending the whole night in hospital for observation, Fernando Torres has left this morning the hospital in La Coruña. He will have to observe a 48-hour rest."

There was serious concern for the 32-year-old, after the collision in the final five minutes of the game sent him crashing head first onto the surface of the pitch.

Teammates and medical staff rushed to his aid and he was subsequently stretchered off.

Torres posted a message on his Twitter account last night, thanking people for their concern.
