Floyd Mayweather admits defeat in attempt to set up Conor McGregor super fight

Floyd Mayweather has admitted defeat in his attempt  to make a crossover fight with Conor McGregor.

The 39-year-old retired boxer had said that he wanted to take on Irish MMA fighter for $100 million.

But it hasn't been possible to set up a fight between the pair.

As McGregor is under contract with the UFC, that organisation would have had to give their blessing to any co-promotion.

"I tried to make the fight happen but we [weren't] able to, so we must move on," Mayweather told FightHype.com.

But he also told Fight Hype that his approach would be different to NFL star Colin Kaepernick regarding the latter's US anthem protest.

The San Francisco 49er quarter-back has refused to stand for the anthem in protest at racial injustice and the shootings of African Americans by law enforcement.

"I think a lot of people don't really understand what he's doing...Americans that live in the urban communities, they feel like they're not being treated fair, so they're taking a stand...me, myself, my approach would be different...only thing we can do with certain situations is just pray," he said to Fight Hype.
