Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor confirm interest in super-fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr spent his Saturday evening in Las Vegas, as Conor McGregor took part in a Question and Answers event in Manchester. The two men may have been thousands of miles apart, but their minds were focused on one thing. Each other.

Both fighters spoke openly about their willingness to fight each other, in what looks to be becoming more and more likely as each week passes. Mayweather's record is currently 49-0 and has not fought since September 2015. McGregor's next fight has not been announced after he won the UFC Lightweight Title in New York in November.

"I don't know if the fight between me and Conor McGregor is going to happen, but most likely the fight will happen," Mayweather told Sky Sports in a ringside interview ahead of the Carl Frampton-Leo Santa Cruz fight.

The Olympic bronze medallist added the he feels he can be paid what he feels his is due, in what would be one of the most hyped fights in recent history. "We had to do a job on my side and hopefully all the fans in the UK come over and support me."

"I don't know [when the fight happens], I have to communicate with my team, the fight hasn't been made yet, but it is all about entertainment so hopefully we can make it happen."

Hours before Mayweather's comments, McGregor said he felt the fight would happen sooner, rather that later.

"That fight is more than just being explored," MMAFighting.com report McGregor said in Manchester. "That fight has been in the works awhile now. Look, there’s a lot of steps to get through to get the fight going, but it’s the fight to make. It’s the fight the people want. It’s the fight I want. I know I’m confident going in there."

"I believe the next time I step into a combat arena will be through the ropes wearing 10-ounce or eight-ounce gloves. I believe so."

The hype is not abating, however much of a mismatch the fight could potentially be.
