Sebastián Pol had clearly had enough of listening to the abuse that he was receiving from fans in Chile this past weekend, and decided to take some action himself and put an end to it.

Pol's side Audax Italiano were in action against Universidad Católica and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-1 scoreline, something which fans in the stands were happy to let the players know about.

Pol, who entered the pitch in the 62nd minute as a substitute, clearly didn't like the tone of the insults coming from the stands and, at the final whistle, jumped up on the barrier separating the crowd from the pitch and aimed a kick at one of the supporters in the stands.

Speaking afterwards, the Argentine player apologised for his actions, and stated that the fan had spat at him in the course of the match, as well as aiming plenty of insults his way.

"Regrettably, I had a reaction to someone who did something that they shouldn't have. I'm sorry that I did it, it's not right. I sincerely apologise to him. I didn't want to hit him, I wanted to scare him. I didn't want to fight."

Pol was detained by uniformed police officers in the wake of the incident, and could even face some jail time according to the letter of the law in Chile which deals specifically with violence in football stadiums. He is likely to face penalties from the Asociación de Fútbol de Chile, while according to The Daily Mail, the fan who was attacked, Cristobal Aztorquiza, said: "He kicked me in the face. He climbed onto the railings and attacked me. I'm going to file a formal complaint."

Eric Cantona's memorable attack on a fan at Selhurst Park in 1995 in a game against Crystal Palace earned the Frenchman an eight-month ban, and there may well be something similar in the pipeline for Pol.
