Former SuperBowl champion Will Smith shot dead in road-rage incident

SuperBowl XLIV champion Will Smith has been shot dead in New Orleans in an apparent road-rage incident after a minor car crash.

The 34-year-old was part of the Saints team that won the SuperBowl in 2010. He also played in Pro Bowl in 2006 in his third season with the team.

According to local reports, Smith was shot by a driver of an other car, after exchanging words following a minor road crash.  The defensive end was shot numerous times, along with his wife Racquel who survived the attack. A man was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident with a gun found at the scene.

Hours before his death, Smith posted a picture on Instagram with his wife at an event in New Orleans where he lived since becoming a professional in 2004.

A product of Ohio State, the New York native was a first round pick in the 2004 Draft. The same class included players like Eli Manning, Larry Fitzgerald and Ben Roethlisberger.
