France edge England in thrilling encounter

France have beaten England 3-2 at the Stade de France as both sides went head to head in an international friendly.

The away side took the lead after an excellent build up on nine minutes as Raheem Sterling flicked the ball onto the overlapping Ryan Bertrand whose ball across was tapped in by Harry Kane.

But France defender Samuel Umtiti equalised from close range on 22 minutes before Djibril Sidibe added another shortly before half time.

But the prolific Kane, who had netted a late equaliser against Scotland in a World Cup qualifier in Scotland, scored his second goal from a penalty that also saw France reduced to 10 men with Raphael Varane sent off for bringing down Dele Alli.

Despite that sending off, the hosts managed to find a 78th-minute winner. After good work from the lively and much sought after Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe, Borussia Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele fired in the winning goal.

The match was preceded by tributes from both sets of supporters to the victims of recent terror attacks in Manchester and London, similarly to the tributes paid during the last encounter between France and England at Wembley in November 2015 shortly after the Paris Attacks.
