Francesco Totti says goodbye to Roma in emotional farewell

Francesco Totti is the epitome of a one-club man.

Having made his debut as a 16-year-old for Roma in March 1993, the 40-year-old played his final game for the Serie A club on Sunday afternoon.

In recent years, Totti's role at Roma has lessened as his years increase, but he remains a living legend to the club's fans. On Sunday afternoon, he was used as a second-half substitute in the Stadio Olimpico as Roma defeated Genoa 3-2.

Roma's captain since 1998 (as a 22-year-old), Totti is Roma's top goalscorer with 307 goals. He also has played more times than anyone else for the Giallorossi making 786 appearances.

After Roma's 3-2 win, the focus was switched to Totti, with Roma's fans and Totti's teammates paying tribute to the 40-year-old.

Speaking to the crowd after the match, Totti openly admitted he was "afraid" of leaving Roma, and may continue to play despite his age.

One of his final acts as Roma's captain was to take off his captain's armband one final time and place it on the arm of Mattia Almaviva, the club's youngest academy captain.
