GAA tweak club championship schedule to allow Slaughtneil time between semi-finals

Dual Ulster football and hurling champions Slaughtneil have been granted more time between their club championship semi-finals next February.

The Derry champions have been one of the stories of the GAA year, prevailing in both big and small ball competitions this winter. They took home football, hurling and camogie crowns in Ulster and prepare for their All-Ireland semi-finals in the coming months.

The GAA have moved to allow them more time to prepare for their hurling semi-final. The fixture, which was originally set for February 4, sees them take on Dublin club Cuala.

The club had asked for the fixture to be pushed back and have had their wish granted, with their hurling semi-final now taking place on February 25.

"This change has been made to ease fixture congestion for Slaughtneil who are also playing in the AIB All-Ireland Club Senior Football Championship Semi-Final on February 11," they wrote on the GAA's official website.

As many as 17 players could be involved in both the hurling and football games. Slaughtneil will take on another Dublin side, St Vincent's, in the football semi-final two weeks prior on February 11.

A win in the hurling semi-final would see them play either Clare club Ballyea or Galways' St Thomas.

A win in the football semi-final will book their date in Croke Park against either Dr. Crokes or Corofin.
