Eamonn Fitzmaurice: "I think in Kerry we've more followers than supporters"

Former Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice says there is an element of Kerry's supporters that are harder to satisfy than others.

Fitzmaurice did give praise to the 'hardcore' support from some of Kerry's fans. He confirmed that he received lots of positive comments from fans, after he announced his resignation last Saturday.

The former manager joined Eoin Sheahan on this morning's OTB AM.

"I think with the Kerry supporters, and I think this is very important to say this from the outset - There's a genuine cohort there; and they're absolutely unbelievable, they've supported us through thick and thin and they've supported me through thick and thin. I've had a load of good will over the last couple of days,' said Fitzmaurice.

The former player is very thankfully of the supporter he received during his tenure but believes there are a stable of supporters that are harder to please.

"I think that can be overplayed sometimes that there is a very genuine cohort, everyone's tarnished with the same brush but then of course there is a cohort that are hard to satisfy. Again, that's part of the thing; and it's there.

The former All-Ireland winner compared some Kerry people fans as followers of Kerry rather than supporters of their county.

"The thing I would say in relation to the Kerry supporters is that - I think in Kerry we've more followers than supporters. We've the co-heart that support the team and go to all the games. The people that are there through thick and thin.

Fitzmaurice says he is fine with the expectations in the county's ranks, and believes it's part of the bloodline of Kerry GAA.

"I'd have never his from that expectancy with the effort we've put in, the players we have, and the way we try to do everything right - we expect to win the All-Ireland ever year.
