Former Mayo footballer David Brady has said that Mayo's form in the league is not of importance to the side, as they only have one fixture in mind, May the 13th.
Mayo have underperformed once more during the league campaign this year, but Brady believes that it doesn't matter, as the Connacht Championship Quarter-Final with Galway in MacHale Park is the only thing on their mind.
"They're putting everything, everything into the championship. Everything into this game in May in the championship against Galway. It's talked about a long before this week, or today, or last week".
"There's one date that's embedded in my mind, in everyone in Mayo's mind, and it's May the bloody 13th. D-Day".
"Now you could have a scenario where whoever wins that game is saying, 'happy days'. Happy days, they haven't won anything, but they've the first step on the championship road. For Mayo, if they lose that game there won't be a road. They will not, and I can tell you now, they will not come back from that".
Despite his belief in the focus on the game with Galway, David Brady noted that Mayo's poor league form may have something to do with their style, as they're too reliant on a running game despite the heavy pitches in winter not providing the ideal conditions.
"The game that Mayo play in the winter is exactly the same as they play in summer and you can't do that. Hard running, taking the ball, taking men on, you won't take men on. They're killing themselves, but that's the style".
"Look at the other teams, and I've seen it over the last week or two. A lot of teams are going with the longer ball, a more direct approach into the full forward line, having a target man".
