Sinead Aherne keen to end Dublin's recent All Ireland final trend

When it comes to All Ireland Ladies football final pain, Dublin have had more than their fair share.

While victory came in 2010, the presence of a truly outstanding and dominant Cork team mean falling at the final hurdle has become something of an annual event.

Since 2005, Cork have won all but one All Ireland - that 2010 one - with Dublin losing the last three finals to them.

However, instead of Cork this time, it's their semi final conquerors Mayo who stand between them and just a second All Ireland title.

Dublin star Sinead Aherne is conscious of trying to end that losing trend in recent finals.

She told Oisin Langan: "You know you're right up there and it's just about finding that extra something that will push you that one step further so it gives you confidence to know that you're very close and it's to take what you can from those defeats and use it to not to motivate yourself as such but as a base to move and to build."

But she feels the addition of fresh faces in the panel and backroom team means there will also be something new about the chase for glory.

"It's a different panel, it's a different management team and every season takes a life of its own and once you begin preparations, it's very much focusing on that season," she said.

"All year we've been trying to get back to an All Ireland final but not just to get there but to go and win it.

"Last year is done and gone at this stage. It's just focusing on preparing for Sunday as best we can."

When they faced Mayo in last year's semi final, it turned to a hard-fought battle with Dublin narrowly prevailing 2-10 to 1-12. Aherne is expecting a similarly closely-fought clash.

"It was a one pointer and the same between us in the league this year - a one point win for Mayo so I think we're pretty evenly matched," she said.

Mayo manager Frank Browne: "Cora will kill me for saying it but you're in the presence of greatness"
