Gardiner misses out on Rio as Michael O'Reilly takes gold without needing to throw a punch

Dean Gardiner won't be going to the Olympics in Rio.

The Tipperary super heavyweight was beaten by Italy's Guido Vianello on a unanimous decision at the World Olympic qualifiers in Azerbaijan.

Only the gold medal winner in the super heavy class qualifies for August's Olympics.

Michael O’Reilly won gold without throwing a punch this morning.

The Laois middleweight, who has already qualified for Rio, claimed the top prize on a walkover at the expense Turkmenistan’s Arslan Achilov.
