Gary Anderson remains on track to retain World Darts title

Gary Anderson remains on course to collect a third consecutive title, after defeating Dave Chisnall to qualify for the semi-final of the World Darts Championship.

Anderson prevailed against the seventh seed 5-3, to set up a penultimate stage clash against Peter 'Snakebite' Wright who came through against James Wade earlier today.

It was the 2015 and 2016 champion who took an early lead, recording a 104 checkout against the throw in the opening set and narrowly winning the second set to put him 2-0 in front.

Chisnall kept pace with him however, hitting a 180 across all five legs in the first set. In fact, both competitors threw 33 maximums between them in the match.

Despite the deficit, Chisnall rallied to level the tie 2-2 after racing through three consecutive legs.

Anderson hit a 124 finish on the bullseye to steal back the advantage but failed to fully shake of Chisnall's challenge who brought it back to 3-3.

Chisnall however, missed four doubles thereafter which gave the defending champion a 4-3 lead. He then missed three more doubles and Anderson capitalised on the blunder to win his 16th consecutive World Darts Championship match.

Elsewhere, Michael van Gerwen also progressed to the Semi-Finals with a 103.08 average, hitting two 170 checkouts on the way.
