German footballer undergoes emergency surgery following shooting incident

His aunt was killed in the incident

German footballer Marc Wachs has undergone emergency surgery after a shooting which resulted in the death of one of his family members.

The 21-year-old plays for Dynamo Dresden in the German second division.

His injuries have been described as non-life threatening according to his club.

Wachs' aunt was shot dead in the incident which took place in Wachs' hometown of Wiesbaden near Frankfurt on Tuesday morning, while her husband suffered injuries.

Speaking on behalf of the club, Dynamo sporting director Ralf Minge said: "We are shocked, stunned and deeply saddened. The entire Dyname family stands behind Marc and his family. We will be there, wherever our help and support is needed."

Wachs is recovering after emergency surgery.
