Graeme Le Saux warns that Mourinho sexism row will discourage women from working in football

Graeme Le Saux, a member of the Football Association inclusion advisory board, has joined the chorus of voices criticising the Chelsea manager for his conduct in the argument he had with team doctor Eva Carneiro.

The incident took place on the 8th of August 2015, where she and her colleague Jon Hearn took to the filed to treat Eden Hazard in the dying moments of a game against Swansea, which Chelsea were losing.

Jose Mourinho took exception to that move on Carneiro's part, and the two had a row on the touchline, which eventually lead to the doctor leaving the club and Mourinho being investigated by the FA but not being charged

Speaking to The Times, Le Saux stated that he believed the whole episode has been very damaging to all those involved, and that it has had a detrimental effect on the work that he and the inclusion advisory board are trying to do.

"Some good people at the FA have taken a kicking after concluding there was insufficient evidence to charge Mourinho, whilst the whole furore may also deter women from becoming involved in football, as well as discouraging clubs from employing them. A lot of people are working very hard to get the game in a better place, but after the last few weeks it feels as if we’ve gone back 30 years".

Le Saux also said that as a former Chelsea player, he was "saddened" by the incident, and that "the biggest disappointment for me is that Mourinho doesn’t seem to have reflected on the damage he has done to his own image, the reputation of the club and, more important, the reputation of the entire game".
