Graeme McDowell keeps within touching distance at Genesis Open

Graeme McDowell has carded a 70 in his second round at the Genesis Open to sit 3-under overall.

The Northern Irishman had started well with a 69 from the opening round and a solid 70 keeps in within four shots of the lead.

He made a slow start to his second round in California with two bogeys on the front nine either side of a birdie.

But the back nine proved fruitful with a string of birdies on the 11th, 15th and 16th holes, mitigated by a bogey on the 10th.

Round 2 action will resume tomorrow:

Shane Lowry is outside the projected cut mark.

The Offaly native is one of those who will finish their second rounds tomorrow.

But he is back on 6-over overall. Having carded a 73 yesterday, he is 4-over through 16 in his second round.

The projected cut mark is currently even par which makes it unlikely that Lowry will qualify for the final two rounds this weekend.

Padraig Harrington has yet to tee off his second round. A strong opening round means he has a good platform to tee off from after a 4-under par 67.

Jhonattan Vegas of Colombia and US golfer Sam Saunders lead the way on 7-under overall. However, Vegas is one of those not to have completed their second rounds.
